FLL Explore (FLLE) (FIRST LEGO League Explore) is a non-competitive robotics program designed for children ages six to ten.
It follows the same general theme given to FIRST LEGO League Challenge (FLLC). While FLLC teams conduct research projects and design autonomous robots specifically to carry out missions relating to the topic, FLL Explore teams conduct much smaller projects and make models out of LEGO elements to illustrate one part of the theme. They may also use LEGO WeDo, a programmable robotics kit, as part of their models.
The Pitt Pirates are excited to expand FLL Explore in Eastern North Carolina. While we have mentored and funded several FLL Explore teams and hosted four EXPOs in conjunction with our FLLC Tournaments, we are looking to increase participation in this program and hold another EXPO in the 2022 season!
In 2017, the Pitt Pirates mentored and funded FLL Jr Team 267, the Mini Mateys, for challenge Aqua Adventure. They were selected to represent North Carolina in Houston as the 1st FLL Jr team to attend Worlds from NC. They won the Innovative Research Award while at the World Expo! And one of their members was selected to introduce Dean Kamen at the Closing Ceremony in front of 30,000+ people! We are so proud of our Mini Mateys for their drive and for all of our mentored teams that worked incredibly hard on their posters, projects and dioramas over the many seasons.
