Pitt Air Pirates Take Flight at State Event

Allison WasklewiczCompetition

Pitt Pirates Robotics earned their 4th and 5th blue banner at this past weekend’s NC State Championship. They earned banners for the Regional Chairman’s Award and the Woodie Flowers Finalist Award received by Ann McClung. The Chairman’s Award is the most prestigious award at FIRST, as it honors the team that best represents a model for other teams to emulate and best embodies the purpose and goals of FIRST. And the Woodie Flowers Award is presented to an outstanding Mentor in the robotics competition who best leads, inspires, teaches, and empowers their team using excellent communication skills. We couldn’t think of a more deserving Mentor than our own Ann McClung. These were both huge honors and are representative of years of dedication to FIRST principles, STEM and community outreach.

Another highlight was uniting with our sister team, Boneyard Robotics in the finals. House United! And to sweeten the whole experience was to find out we (Pitt Pirates Robotics & Boneyard Robotics) are both heading to Houston for the FIRST World Championship to represent Eastern North Carolina!
