Ava the dog demonstrates the importance of safety glasses in the shop. If a dog can do it, we can all choose to wear our appropriate PPE!

Everything is going nice and steady this week in the shop!

Due to exams in our public schools, many team members were out of the shop this week. Thankfully, Team 2642 is working hard to get back on track. The Design team is finishing sketches of their ideas in order to move forward with construction of the new robot. Safety has been giving thorough talks about the importance of fire safety in the shop, while Marketing works on designing and planning Social Media posts, taking pictures for Team Spotlights, and making team posters and flyers.  Programming is continuing to code for Destination Deep Space!

Charles, a first-year Engineer, was asked about how this past week has gone in his opinion. “Fairly well, except for the failure of the lift system,” he answered. We then asked him if he had learned anything new. Laughing, he replied, “Don’t trust pneumatics!”

Charles’ sister, Emily, who is a Marine stationed at Camp Lejeune, brought 6 of her buddies and 1 awesome Ava to the Clark Street shop to  assist in the building of field elements. Field element construction is key to assist our programmers, engineers and drive team to learn the field and how to react to different situations. We asked Charles how it felt to have his sister work with us in the shop, and he said, “I feel like it's nice of her to help out here, and I feel like it was very much appreciated by everyone!”  That is was Charles! We greatly appreciated their time and talents. Oorah to all 8 of them!

Fire safety was the theme of our daily safety talks. We covered topics like fire evacuations, what are the leading causes of shop space fires and how to prevent them, and the different types of fire extinguishers and how to use fire extinguishers. Next week, we will be covering and reviewing Safety Kits!

The Marketing team continues to post daily updates about our team members and what's going on in the shop. The Marketing team is running a little late on their Team Spotlight series due to exams, but everything will soon be up to date! Keep on eye out for the next post!
