Five weeks into build season and the end is within sight! Shockingly, reveal night is only a week away. After canceling our team meeting Thursday due to the threat of tornadoes, we are eager to make up lost time and finish strong.

“Over the past couple days as Engineering has been fabricating all the parts for the robot, Programming has been implementing the different subsystems,” 3rd year Pirate and Programming Team Leader Dylan Thorne informed me. Some of these include the magazine, color sensor, dashboard, and shooter. The design team is also proud to announce that they are almost done with robot assembly! Only a few final touches left.

In other exciting news, our Chairman’s and Woodie Flowers’ Essays have been submitted! These two important papers outline the strengths and outreach of our team and the dedication of a chosen mentor, respectively. Thank you for the hard work and countless hours of everyone who contributed to these awesome essays.

On Saturday, a few members and mentors from our team traveled to the Eastern Regional MathCounts competition held at South Central High School. Second-year Pirate and Safety Manager Nikita Sadhale elaborated: “We talked to the students... before the countdown rounds… about what we do and the different areas of our team.” The presenters also provided a demonstration of RoboxSumos and last year’s robot, Bounty. The group hoped to inspire the mathletes to pursue FIRST programs; perhaps there were even some future Pirates in their midst!

Team 7715 Robo-Banditos came to visit again last Saturday. An atmosphere of productivity was palpable as our two teams worked side by side. The next day, a few RotoRaptors from Team 3737 stopped by. Thanks to both teams for coming! Come back any time.

As we sail closer to the end of build season, and robot reveal looms on the horizon, we should celebrate what we have accomplished so far but remember not to slow down. A busy and rewarding last week is sure to be in store. Keep an eye out so you don’t miss the last build season update!
